1c. I do see long term impacts from this class because what i have learned about blogging and finding information and doing things online is very important.

2.The technology in this class has shaped my learning because i have never done this kind of work on a computer and i found that is very helpful

2a.The use of technology in soc 101 compared to other classes is very different. I have never had a class that has used the internet like this class.

    1. How savvy were you with technology coming into the class?
I was fairly savvy with technology before coming into this class.

1a. How do you compare to typical millennial students?
My Millennial score was an 86, making me very much a typical millennial student. Ways in which I am a part of the Millennial Generation are my use of a cell phone (and not a landline phone), use of social networking sites, my liberal beliefs, and growing up in a household of divorce.

1b. Has this changed during the course? If so, how?
My savvyness with technology has not really changed during this course. Though we used a lot of different Internet resources, I had used all of these in the past: Gmail, Google Docs, Blog, YouTube, etc. Sorry, I’ve always been somewhat of a computer nerd and have used most of these resources before taking this class.

1c. Do you foresee any long-term educational impacts for yourself?
I don’t really see any long-term educational impacts from the technology in this class because I had used it all before.

    2. Describe particular aspects of technology use in the course that shaped your learning?
One source of technology that helped to shape my learning was the TouchGraph assignment. I found analyzing my social network structure online very interesting. I felt this way a good way to learn about social connections and it is something that will stay with me after leaving this class.

2a. How does the use of technology in Soc 101 compare to other courses?
In Soc 101, I used technology considerably more than I had in any other class prior to this one. I had never taken a class before where the Wikipedia was online and, therefore, able to be updated at any time. Also, I’ve never experienced a class where lecture overview and assignment listings could be found in a blog.

2b. What aspects could be improved in either Soc 101 or other courses?
I personally didn’t like all of the class content being on Blogger, Wikipedia, Etherpad, etc. It was really frustrating for me. I felt like there were way too many Internet resources used in this class to the point that it was overwhelming. I guess I just like things to be simplified and would have preferred all the class content to be found in one distinct place. With Blogger, Wikipedia, Etherpad, Google Docs, several emails almost daily, and lecture notes I just felt overwhelmed by so many different ways of obtaining information and keeping up with this class.

    3. Consider your own identity, background and educational aspirations.
In my own life, technology has always been extremely important. I’ve been using a computer since a very young age and it is something that is very prevalent to my life now. I maintain contact with most of my friends through social networking websites like Facebook and Twitter. I’ve always done research for classes strictly through my computer and now even take all my notes for classes on my computer.

    4. What general comments do have about technology related teaching practices that can enhance your learning and preparation for your possible career paths?
I believe technology related teaching practices are very important. It is important to know everything about technology as possible, especially since it is such a huge part of our lives now and will be a huge part of our future careers. I feel that teaching through technology is very helpful because people are able to better understand and use these practices in their daily lives and in their future.

    1. How savy were you with technology coming into the class?
Coming into the class, I was not very tech savvy, as you discussed, I only use things like Facebook and texting.

1a. How do you compare to typical millennial students?
According to the quiz, I am much like other millenials, I scored a 99.

1b. Has this changed during the course? If so, how?
Throughout the course we were forced to use many different technologies to earn a good grade, causing us to be more tech savvy. We used e-mail, blackboard, wikipedia, youtube, gapminder, g-mail, google documents, blogs, surveys, etherpad, etc, I have become experienced in how to use all of these through this class.

1c. Do you foresee any long term educational impacts for yourself?
Yes, this class has made an impact that will stay with me long term. Many of the programs we used can be helpful in studying, for projects, for networking, finding information, etc.

    2. Describe particular aspects of technology use in the course that shaped your learning.
Etherpad was quite helpful incase I didn't get all of the notes down. I also liked the blog because you see others opinions and share your own, as well as ask other students about any questions you may have. The wikipedia page with the syllabus was very useful because it had all of our plans, links, homework, projects, etc. for the course.

2a. How does the use of technology in Soc 101 compare to other courses?
The use of technology is Soc 101 is much greater than in other courses. Most other courses use e-mail, some rarely ever send e-mails, and blackboard, and again, some courses don't even use that much, if at all. In Soc 101 we had to use many different technologies, as I have listed in previous questions.

2b. What aspects could be improved in either Soc 101 or other courses?
I don't think there is much need for improvement in Soc 101, the only problem I know of is the difficulty some people had with taking the online quizzes, which I never experienced.

    3. Consider your own identity, background and educational aspirations.
When growing up, I didn't live in a very tech savvy household. I remember being in junior high, and because my dad was a teacher in the high school everyone knew us, everyone had a computer, but we didn't, so I would get joked around with all the time about needing to get one. I am on the computer quite often, but it's just for things like e-mail, facebook, and browsing the internet. I am a pre-major in exercise physiology to become a personal trainer. Once I'm out of college, I can use what I learned in this class, for networking, marketing, to communicate with my clients, to find places to apply for work, to find clinics to attend to better my teaching, and etc.

    1. Coming into class I was somewhat tech savvy. I have an iPhone that I use, I text a lot, and I have a facebook account.

1a. I think I am slightly average when compared to other millennial students.

1b. I have never blogged before this course and I may never again unless it is for another class. I will just use my facebook and e-mail.

1c. I think it will help me in the long run because I have found other ways to do things online.

    2. I like how everything we needed was on blackboard. I also liked how all the quizzes were online.

2a. Compared to other courses this used the most technology. The most I used blackboard for other classes was to check my grades.

2b. In the beginning of the course I had a hard time trying to understand how to use the different contents. It got a little easier as time went on. Other than that everything was okay.

    3. I never really got on the internet until I was in middle school, and even then it was only to find research for different projects. Now, however, I get on for school work and also to get on my facebook account.

    1. I would say that I was kind of tech savy before entering this class. I feel pretty confident with many programs like Microsoft office, photo editing programs, and most of the resources the Internet has to offer. I felt like I could guide someone through the general process of something that they needed to get done and if I didn’t know how to do it I could find out how.
1a. My score on the quiz was a 66. I feel like I compare pretty well because I grew up with them but I also identify with older generations well because of my interest in history and older musical generations. I feel like I am right in the middle of the technological skill set of a typical millennial student. I know how to do most things but I am also aware that there are many students that are much better with technology than myself.
1b. Throughout this course I don’t feel like I have changed much in the ways of technological advancement. I knew how to do all of the things we incorporated except for the use of Google documents. Ultimately I feel like there was too much going on through too many different online resources to follow the class easily.
1c. I was glad to use a lot of internet resources but ultimately I felt that the student was at a disadvantage. Long term educational impacts would be me using any one of these resources and possible multiple ones at the same time. I wont be using all of them at the same time because it is too easy to forget what goes where and where I should look to find something specific.

    2. I used the blogs and the syllabus on Wikipedia to keep up with this class. I did not use the etherpad though I’m sure it would have been useful. With the work load from my other classes I wanted to keep this class as simple as I could in order to not lose track of things. I occasionally made comments on the blogs and submitted suggestions for the clip of the day. I did not use the projects blog because I felt like the task was explained well enough in class. I found Blackboard to be very useful for quizzes and so forth, I wished that more of the class was run through Blackboard instead of everything having its own website.
2a. The technology use in Soc 101 has been much greater than in my other class. I have online homework to do for other classes but all of the content and information comes from lectures. There is no online interaction with other students with Google docs or through the use of multiple blogs.
2b. I think that the Soc 101 class should only have one website. If it is Blackboard or not, I don’t think that matters. Ultimately the number of online destinations makes it harder and more of a hassle to follow and keep up with everything. I understand that the use of all the different resources get us as students more acquainted with them but I feel like an assignment dealing with a blog or with Wikipedia would suffice instead of having a course blog and the syllabus on Wikipedia.

    3. I think technology is a great tool to use when it comes to learning. I don’t feel like we were taught anything as far as technology goes. If we did not know it we had to figure it out. Granted it wasn’t difficult but if we are using technology for something I feel like it would be proper to have a teaching session on it. I think that the world is going to become more technologically advanced as time goes on but we cant move too far ahead and leave some countries behind. That would not do the world communications effort any justice.

    1. im not the best with technology, before this class i thought i was pretty up to date but between blog posts and etherpad that was all new to me and it was a good way to learn throughout the year.
1a. I would have to say im slightly slower than the average student with technology
1b i think it has changed because the technology in this course has taught me a few things. networks and blogs are some things i didnt really know of or pay attention to.
1c. I can definetly see long term impacts from this class because what i have learned about technology and the internet includding blogging and finding information and doing things online is very beneficial. ive learned that through techonlogy almost anything is possible
    2. this class has taught me alot about technology and i will be able to use it to better myself in other classes as well as every day life
2a. This classes was tremendously different from any other class so far. although im just a freshmen i never knew you could use the internet and other technology to control the classroom. to have group projects with a classs this big is unbelievable.
2b. i think some classes are better off left traditionaly taught but majority could benefit from using technology like we used in soc 101.
3.The use of technology in this class can expand future opportunities for me because technology is such important part of todays society and will continue to be even more important in the future
